And so here we are on the M/S Expedition, departing Ushuaia, Argentina and heading first to the Shetland Islands and then to the mainland of the Antarctic Peninsula.

This is our crew in the "mud room" where all of the soiled outer layers stay after a landing. Our ship had 138 passengers but only maybe 20 of us were under the age of 45 so we buddied up pretty quickly.

We made it across the Drake Passage in great time and were able to make our first landing a day early. This is Aitcho Island in the Shetland Islands. Our ship dropped anchor as close as it could get and then we went ashore in these 10 passenger Zodiacs. Last comment 12/16/16.

The fog and the mud made for a bit of a post-apocalyptic feel. Albatross photobomb! Last comment 11/27/15.

We arrived after the eggs were hatched and the penguin young were now adolescents. This guy is really getting up in there!

We were directed to always give a 15 feet berth to all wildlife, including penguins. However, we were also told that if we sat quietly sometimes the young penguins would get curious and come check us out. This little guy was checking Celena out.. Last comment 04/19/22.
