On November 21, 2006 the Lebanese cabinet minister Pierre Gemayel was assassinated. The government in Beirut accused Damascus of ordering the assassination. We arrived in Beirut the next night, a bit wary but not enough so to cancel our trip. Last comment 11/23/20.

The following day there was a pro Lebanese, anti Syrian demonstration downtown. Sara and I went do observe. We were very interested and a little scared. We got lucky! There was no violence that day.

The general feeling among the crowd was positive - they were there to show their support for a united and strong Lebanon, despite the destructive efforts of the few. These gentlemen thought it was a good idea to watch the show from a crane. I think I disagree. :-) Last comment 04/19/22.

After the rally started to wind down Sara and I rented a car and drove out to Byblos. We got there just as the sun was setting over the Mediterranean. Last comment 03/25/13.

The next day we took a trip to see the Jeitta Grotto. This cable car took us to the entrance of the caves. They didn't allow cameras inside the caves so you'll have to see images here. :-)
