Since all of the goodwill clothes we'd brought from Lori's paremts wouldn't fit in the car, we had to lash it on top. Jesse dusted off his sea legs and showed us how to tie some strong knots.

Yes, I drove off the road. Yes, we had a flat tire, actually TWO flat tires. No, we only had one spare. No, neither of the two closest towns had a tire shop. Yes, we were stranded.

We had to wait by the side of the road for three hours in rural South Africa, on our first day in Africa ever, to wait for the rental company to send out someone with two tires. After I stopped being scared it was actually fun. :-)
