I never knew that the city got its name from the merging of twin cities across the Danube river from each other, Buda and Pest. Last comment 04/19/22.

The Matthias Church on castle hill in Buda was a place of the so called Mary-wonder. In 1686 the city was held by the Turks but was under attack from the Holy League Christians. During the siege a wall of the church collapsed due to cannonfire. It turned out that an old votive Madonna statue was hidden behind the wall. As the sculpture of the Virgin Mary appeared before the praying Muslims, the morale of the garrison collapsed and the city fell on the same day. Last comment 11/23/20.

Ed and I were so thankful for our Budapest couchsurfing hosts Adrienn and Akos. Since the beginning of the trip we had been looking for a garage where we could get new tires, but with the language barriers and our tight schedule we had been unable to make it happen.

Akos took time off from work to take us all around the city in search of a reasonable garage who could give us new tires. He found us this guy who had what we needed and was asking a reasonable price for a great all weather tire. Last comment 04/19/22.

Akos, thank you so much! Without you we would have had a much different experience. Our four new tires were great, despite the terrible conditions of the road ahead of us we never once had a flat. Last comment 08/12/20.

These buildings go back deep into the hillside where the oak barrels of wine are stored at a cool and constant temperature. Ed filled up a 2 liter bottle of delicious bulls blood wine for around one dollar. Next stop: Ukraine! Last comment 04/19/22.
