Our next excursion was a roadtrip out to the coastal town of Stykkishólmur in the Snæfellsnes peninsula in western Iceland. Viewed: 1074 times.

It was only a few hours drive but the conditions quickly went from a beautiful (albeit freezing) day to near whiteout conditions. Here you see us driving from the blue skies into the storm.

Luckily our wagon was built for these conditions, it was awesome! It had metal studs in the tires and even when I tried I couldn't get it to slide.

We made it through the blizzard and on to Stykkishholmur! It is a fishing village and also the landing point for the ferry to the West Fjords.

We asked if we could reserve space on a fishing boat for the afternoon. We were told that because of the choppiness of the waters, no boats would be going out for a few days. Next time! :-)

We climbed the hill which protects the harbor. The wind at the top was intense, I was really wishing that I had brought some gloves and a scarf!
